Why Job Hunt Now?

Typically, September is a popular month for new job adverts, too, so it makes perfect sense to enter the job market when new roles are being made available.

Plus, the New Year is traditionally a busy time for job seekers, but September is a sweet spot. Not everyone is considering a job change, so there’s potentially less competition for the roles you’re eyeing. This can work in your favour, giving you a better chance to stand out to potential employers.

If you’re considering making a change, here are some top tips to kickstart your September job hunt.

Update your CV

It’s not just about adding your latest employment dates and employer name. Your CV should reflect your experience, skills and achievements. You can download a Crone Corkill template here. When reviewing CVs we always focus on:

  1. What impact did you have on the business? Think about this question in terms of tangible results. Did you grow revenue by X%? Expand your team? Deliver a specific result for a client? Bring in a certain volume of business?
  2. Don’t forget to update your CV on this website; it gets it directly in front of our recruiters and adds you to our database so we can match you with a job of the calibre you’re looking for.

Network, Network, Network

Recruitment agencies are often the easiest way to find a new role, but there’s a wealth of opportunity in your network. Get your LinkedIn page updated and start networking – online and offline. You don’t have to directly mention you’re actively job seeking, but it can lead to unexpected opportunities. You need to be in the right place at the right time.

Write down your Career Goals

This also counts as interview preparation for when the time comes. What do you want to achieve with your job shift – is it to gain specific new skills and experience? Work in a new industry? Enhance specific soft skills?

Making a list of what you want to get from the job makes it easier to review job adverts, talk to recruitment consultants, and decide on whether to apply for a role or not.

Make sure to consider the type of company too – from industry and size to culture and growth plans. This will help define your search for the right role and allow you to be selective with your applications.

Stay Positive and Persistent

No-one said it would be easy, just that it’s worth it. Job hunting can be a bit of a rollercoaster. There will be ups and downs, but staying positive and persistent is key. Remember, finding the right role is a process, and each step—even the setbacks—is moving you closer to your next opportunity.
